Day 2 – to Poreč
After breakfast, drive to Poreč, whose Episcopal Complex of the Euphrasian Basilica in the Historic Centre was listed as a Unesco site in 1997. The Episcopal Complex, with its striking mosaics dating back to the 6th century, is one of the best examples of early Byzantine art and architecture in the Mediterranean region and the world. It includes the basilica itself, a sacristy, a baptistery, and the bell tower of the nearby archbishop’s palace. After free time in Poreč, drive back to Opatija. Check-in to your hotel and enjoy the evening after dinner in this beautiful royal town with Lungomare walk. (B, D)
Day 3 – Plitvice Lakes National Park
We continue our travel after breakfast. Since 1979, Plitvice Lakes have been listen on UNESCO list of world cultural and natural heritage. Over time, water has flowed over the natural limestone and chalk, creating natural dams which in turn have created a series of connecting lakes, waterfalls and caves. The nearby forests are home to bears, wolves, and many rare birds. Have your camera ready as you take a walking tour around several of the lower lakes. Enjoy the breathtaking scenery of this natural wonder of 16 terraced lakes surrounded by thickly wooded mountains and lush vegetation. Leisure after dinner and enjoy the green forest and beautiful nature. Dinner at your hotel is a great way to end the day. (B, D)
Day 4 – National Park Paklenica
National Park Paklenica has been on UNESCO list since 2017. This transboundary site (shared with Albania, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Germany, Italy, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Ukraine) encompasses the isolated refuge areas from which the European beech has spread across the continent since the end of the last Ice Age. This successful expansion is related to the tree’s flexibility and tolerance of different climatic, geographical and physical conditions. Drive to Zadar for dinner and overnight. (B, D)
Day 5 – to Zadar and Šibenik
After breakfast continue your journey to Zadar. Venetian Works of Defence between 15th and 17th centuries are part of Unesco list from 2017. This property consists of 15 components of defence works in Italy, Croatia, and Montenegro, spanning more than 1,000 kilometres between the Lombard region of Italy and the eastern Adriatic Coast. The introduction of gunpowder led to significant shifts in military techniques and architecture. Croatian sites include the defensive system of Zadar and St. Nicholas Fortress in Šibenik. Spend the morning sightseeing in Zadar, a city of exceptional history and rich cultural heritage. Zadar is a city monument, surrounded by historical ramparts, a treasury of the archaeological and monumental riches of ancient and medieval times, Renaissance and many contemporary architectural achievements such as the first Sea Organs. The first stop in Šibenik is the Cathedral is a triple-nave basilica with three apses and a dome (32 metres (105 ft) high inside) and is also one of the most important Renaissance architectural monuments in the eastern Adriatic. The second part of Šibenik that has been, since 2017, protected by Unesco is St. Nicola’s Fortress. Prepare to take a beautiful walk through pine tree forest along the Adriatic sea. Night hours are reserved for dinner at your hotel. (B, D)
Day 6 – Split and Trogir
Morning is reserved for Split and Diocletian’s Palace. The palace was built by the Roman emperor Diocletian at the turn of the fourth century AD, and later served as the basis of the city of Split. A cathedral was built in the Middle Ages inside the ancient mausoleum, along with churches, fortifications, Gothic and Renaissance palaces. The Baroque style makes up the rest of the area. Head to Trogir in the afternoon. Trogir and its rich culture was created under the influence of old Greeks, Romans, and Venetians. It is the best-preserved Romanesque-Gothic complex not only in the Adriatic, but in all Central Europe. Trogir medieval core, surrounded by walls, comprises a preserved castle and tower and a series of dwellings and palaces from the Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque periods. Enjoy the rest of the afternoon free in this town museum. Return to your hotel in evening hours for dinner. (B, D)
Day 7 – Stari Grad, Hvar
After breakfast, ferry drive to island Hvar. Spend the morning sightseeing town Hvar with your Travel Croatia guide. UNESCO protected Stari Grad Plain is an agricultural landscape that was set up by the ancient Greek colonists in the 4th century BC, and remains in use today. The plain is generally still in its original form. The ancient layout has been preserved by careful maintenance of the stone walls over 24 centuries. It has been on the UNESCO list since 2008. Overnight on Hvar island, dinner and free time to explore nightlife on Hvar. (B, D)
Day 8 – Cista Provo and Dubrovnik
After breakfast, take a ferry drive back to Split, following the road to see Cista Provo, UNESCO heritage listed since 2016. Stećci (sing. stećak) or the medieval tombstones are the monolith stone monuments found in the regions of the present Bosnia and Herzegovina, parts of Croatia, Serbia, and Montenegro. They first appeared in the 12th century and reached their peak in the 14th and 15th century. There are two sites inscribed in Croatia, in Dubravka and in Cista Velika. Our journey continues on to Dubrovnik. After arriving to your hotel and dinner, have the rest of the evening free. (B, D)
Day 9 – Dubrovnik
On UNESCO list from 1979, Dubrovnik became a prosperous Maritime Republic during the Middle Ages, it was the only eastern Adriatic city-state to rival Venice. Supported by its wealth and skilled diplomacy, the city achieved a remarkable level of development, particularly during the 15th and 16th centuries. See the town that is famous as King’s Landing in Game of Thrones. Enjoy sightseeing with your guide, learn the history, stories, and Dubrovnik way of life and end this day with dinner at your hotel. This is the last day of this fantastic journey. (B, D)
Day 10 – Travel Croatia Homeward Journey
After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport for your departure flight. (B)
